How to be more spiritual in the new year

As the new year begins, people across the world celebrate with sacred festivals and new resolutions. While you consider the past and look ahead towards the upcoming year, we’ve provided some tips for fostering a spiritual outlook on life.

Choose a word of the year

Each year is like a new chapter in your book of life. Choose a “title” to be the theme of this one. Print it out and allow yourself to focus on it throughout your days.

Express gratitude

As 2021 ends and the new year begins, spend some time seeking areas of thankfulness. Write your gratitude list in a journal or even express to a loved one that you are thankful for them.

Attend a spiritual or religious festival

Whether it’s a time of prayer at a local church, a guided meditation at a Buddhist temple, or a festival of celebration, find time to explore spirituality this year. Consider travelling globally to a spiritual location like Bhutan and discover their array of colorful festivals like Thimphu Tschechu and the Jambay Lhakhang Drup Festival.

Simplify your life

Take some time to rest from the chaos and allow your mind the space it needs to declutter. Step away from your phone or television and add ten minutes of reading, meditation, or practising a hobby that you can share with others.

Try yoga

There is a reason yoga is one of the top forms of exercise globally. Yoga can can help improve your spiritual wellness by reducing emotional and physical strains on your mind and body. Physically, it can lower stress, boost your immune system, lower blood pressure, and so much more.

Travel

Take the time for yourself to travel to a comforting place or to somewhere new. You may find that your mind can keep out distractions easier and help you reflect and rest. As a result, you may discover a better connection with yourself.

Think positively

As you begin to think about things in a positive manner, you’ll discover a new way of seeing your circumstances. Rather than only seeing the negative aspects of life, you’ll begin to have a peaceful and stress-free mindset.
